Movie Summary

Three tourists are touring through Europe, sight-seeing along the way they are heading to Kiev to meet one of the tourist’s older brother. They get there and have a bit of catching up and partying. The next day, they are given a proposition by the tourist’s older brother, to visit Pripyat, a town next to Chernobyl which was left abandoned after a nuclear disaster, as part of an extreme tour. They find out some more about the tour and what exactly happened. After some delay they met up with another group of tourists who were also taking the tour and set out.

They arrived at the gate to Pripyat but were greeted by soldiers who refused to let them pass. The tour guide turned back and took a back road into Pripyat and began the tour. Everything was going great up until they met the last building, where they met the carcases of two dead animals, but continued into the building. Upon leaving they heard a noise, as if there was something in the house, after an investigation, it turned out to be a bear, which came bolting out towards the tourists.

They packed up and got back in the van to leave, but the van would not start, upon examination it looks as if the van was tampered with. The tour guide called for help but got no answer, he then headed outside with a gun, and was soon accompanied by one of the tourists. Shots were heard coming from an area and another tourist ran out to check what was happening, and came back with the other tourist who was injured. The group stayed in the van for the night and encountered a little problem.

The next day they set out to look for the tour guide, leaving the injured tourist in the van with his girlfriend. The body of the tour guide was found and they had to run from the area as a mutated animal had come back to eat what was left. They looked around more and became extremely suspicious. Night was now approaching and they headed back for the van to find it was destroyed and the two tourists gone. They set out to search for them and one by one were killed, by what looked like mutated humans, until only two of them remained. They manage to find help but eventually were killed.

Chernobyl Diaries was extremely hyped by the trailer, but it isn’t scary at all, and actually not so great a movie. It was enjoyable, but a bit predictable, as you could have pointed out who was going to die during a scene.
